dEUS – The Architect / Slow

Artist: dEUS

Rating: 2/5

Let's not waste too much time here. dEUS have been around for what seems to be an eternity, but this double A-side effort is unlikely to win over any new fans. Taken from the band's new album 'Vantage Point', 'The Architect' is over the top Euro pop tosh that wouldn't look too out of place on a soundtrack to a 1980s spoof movie. Take a helping of sub-Daft Punk melody and mix with a dash of old-school 80s hip hop and you end up with an embarrassing mess of a single that washes away all memories of dEUS' earlier (and better) output.

'Slow', on the other hand is a marginally more engaging affair. Darker in tone compared to 'The Architect''s pop kitsch and bringing with it a handy dose of Pink Floyd and er, Enigma, it ultimately stays for far longer than it is welcome. The down side is that 'Slow' sounds like something that dEUS could have mustered up in their sleep, so unless you are a die hard fan, or are looking to bulk out the 'D' section of your CD collection, this is one to best leave behind.

'The Architect' / 'Slow' is released as a single through V2/Cooperative Music on 21st April 2008.
