Portland-based trio Jaguar Love feature two former members of Blood Brothers (that's vocalist Johnny Whitney and guitarist Cody Votolato), plus Pretty Girls Make Graves' Jay Clark on drums. Following the trio's performance at this year's O2 Wireless Festival, DIY spoke to Jay and Cody - Johnny had "gone AWOL" - about festivals and the album, after Cody's discovery that we'd just been with Conor Oberst the other side of London elicited the response: "Do you know how many times he's been here and I've been here? Three. Every time I've been here...".

Is it true that Morrissey has banned meat from backstage?
Yeah.

Are you going to be sticking around to watch him?
Yeah, I think so. If I can find a jacket, it's gonna get cold. It was warm earlier, but not anymore.

So, how did your set go?
It sucked.

Really, what happened?!
[Laughs] We kinda rely on our own gear, and we had to use the backline on the stage, and we only had a ten-minute set change, so it was kinda like, we were sort of rushed, and weren't able to really feel comfortable on the stage before we played, so... But, we're happy to be here. It just wasn't really the best show for us.

You're touring across Europe at the moment...
It's good. We've been playing a lot of festivals, and a lot of small festivals, which have been kinda strange, band-wise. We've been getting our feet wet playing live, we haven't played much live off this album, it's us getting our whole 'mojo'. We definitely feel really good when we have a string of club shows, and start playing really, really well. Festivals kinda throw you off, you're up on stage, then off stage and you can't really... But I do enjoy playing festivals.

This is the start of your UK tour, what can people expect?
We'll have our own equipment! We're playing every song from our record, so if you come to the show you'll hear the songs that are going to be on our record. It's going to be a rockin' good time! Come ready to dance! Don't be uncomfortable, 'cause I think people are a little... they haven't heard of much of the songs, they haven't seen us, they're somewhat uneasy at the show.

Do you have any more festivals planned for this summer?
Yes, two. T In The Park, I think that'll be fun, and then we go home and play a festival in New York called Siren.

You're releasing your debut album next month...
Well, it's a ten-song album, that we wrote and recorded over the course of six months. It's coming out on Matador Records, Jay produced, engineered and mixed it.
